Sadly, many students struggle at the start of the school year, and not getting on top of it quickly can have a seriously detrimental impact on the rest of the academic year.\u00a0 Whether you\u2019ve recently transitioned from Primary School to High School, or you\u2019re moving on to GCSE or A Level subjects, having a wobble when it comes to your education can decrease your confidence and make you doubt yourself.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t Panic<\/h3>\n

Always easier said than done, but the first thing you need to remember when you start worrying about not having the best start to the academic year is not to panic.\u00a0 Panicking never helped anything, and arguably will just make matters worse.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve realised that you\u2019re not understanding what your teacher is talking about, or you\u2019re not able to keep up with the homework that\u2019s being set, then it can be easy to start catastrophising your thinking.\u00a0 Before you know it, you\u2019ve talked yourself into believing you\u2019re just not smart enough, that you can\u2019t do it, and there\u2019s no point in even trying.<\/p>\n

Whilst education does come easy to some people, they\u2019re the minority.\u00a0 For everyone else, a little bit more effort needs to be put in \u2013 which means if you\u2019re struggling, don\u2019t worry, you\u2019re just like most other students.<\/p>\n

\"Online<\/p>\n

Work out what the problem is<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s easy to say something along the lines of, \u201cI hate Chemistry.\u00a0 I\u2019m no good at it.\u201d Yet, the chances are that\u2019s not quite an accurate representation of what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n

Chemistry might not be your favourite subject, and that\u2019s fine, it doesn\u2019t have to be. The reality is, anything we\u2019re not naturally good at we tend to shy away from \u2013 so it makes sense that you\u2019re not thrilled to be going into every lesson on the subject.\u00a0 However, just because you\u2019re struggling with one aspect of the subject doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re bad at all of it.<\/p>\n

Some people aren\u2019t fantastic at running, but it doesn\u2019t mean they can\u2019t do any sports at all.\u00a0 They might just be better at football or netball or shotput.\u00a0 Writing an entire aspect of your education off because you\u2019re not instantly understanding a small element of it won\u2019t\u2019 help you make improvements.<\/p>\n

Talking to your teacher can help you identify the specific areas you\u2019re struggling with, and from there you may find yourself wanting to work with a Chemistry tutor<\/a>, an online science tutor<\/a> or physics and maths tutor<\/a>. Failure to manage your time effectively can result in work either being missed, or everything being rushed.\u00a0 If you\u2019re dashing your homework off at 7am on the day it\u2019s due, it\u2019s never going to be a reflection of your best work or what you\u2019re capable of achieving.<\/p>\n

Taking the time to give 100% to everything you\u2019re asked to complete will give you and your teachers a better understanding of what your knowledge and skills are in this particular subject.<\/p>\n

\"Tutor<\/p>\n

Ask for help<\/h3>\n

Your teachers will always do everything they can to ensure you\u2019re able to get the most out of your classes; however, there are limits.\u00a0 If you find the content is moving too quickly for you it\u2019s unlikely, they\u2019re going to be able to slow the pace down as they have other students to consider and an entire curriculum to go through.<\/p>\n
