Having prior experience in tutoring, I am aware of the barriers that could stop students from achieving their academic potential ranging from boring lessons to complex topics to unfriendly teachers. I hope to deliver my enthusiasm for the sciences into creating interactive and stimulating lessons and to boost my students confidence so they can achieve the best. For GCSE students, my sessions will include implementing the use of analysing exam specifications to provide individualised and relevant teaching to the specific exam board and will work on exam technique in order to pick up extra marks. Most importantly, I will ensure that students do not hesitate to come to me regarding any questions and will continue to promote a friendly atmosphere. I will continually monitor progress using short tests and questions to make sure students are retaining the information because as much as exams are understanding, memorisation is equally important. I will be using a spiral teaching method which is essentially frequent revision of prior topics and it will help link topics to provide a more complete picture. In addition, during the session diagrams, pictures and videos will be used to make it more engaging and to promote active learning .Following the session I will email a revision sheet covering everything we have gone over for future revision. Asides from academic tutoring, I have experience in aptitude tests such as UKCAT and also personal statements for university applicants which I hope can be of use to future medics and biologists.
