My tutoring style shifts depending on the needs of each individual student. However, my expertise lies with my knowledge of the assessment criteria from the current Key stage 3 and GCSE mark schemes. For instance I have marked GCSE English Language papers for two exam boards.
My main goal is to build up the student's confidence, as this route optimises a student’s full potential. I always provide useful feedback that is both positive and constructive.
I have tutored GCSE English literature privately for 2 different clients.
I will give the student a brief overview of the lesson. Then I will give the student a chance to raise any concerns they may have, so that the student doesn’t feel overwhelmed.
I will base the main activity on the assessment criteria of the particular exam board which the student studies under. For instance if the lesson was on poetry, I would ask the student to identity the key literary l devices within the poem and ask them to state what effects they have.
To conclude the lesson, I will give the student feedback on the lesson first verbally then in written form. This is so that they can reflect on what they have performed well at and what they need to improve on.
