I am a fully qualified English teacher with a PGCE from UCL and a 2.1 in English literature from Royal Holloway. I have six years' experience working both as a private tutor and secondary school teacher in London. My aim is to help raise achievement for my students while at the same time encouraging a love of literature. These two goals have proven to reap excellent results.
Since 2010 I have worked with young people as either a mentor or tutor. I went on to gain my BA and PGCE at Royal Holloway and UCL's IOE respectively. I have taught in classrooms in Hertfordshire and London as a secondary school English teacher and now I work as a full time tutor in central London.
I have an abundance of experience in lesson planning as it is an essential skill for any qualified teacher. Over the years I have developed my planning which focuses on both the strengths and relative weaknesses of my students. It is a mixture of knowing exactly what the exam boards want from pupils in their written work and learning what makes students enjoy the process!
Exam Board Experience
As a university student I had a part-time job working for a college in Kensington as an exam invigilator and then examination's officer. This gave me a great insight into the inner workings of all the major exam boards including Pearson Edexcel, AQA, WJEC, OCR and CIE. I have subsequently encountered all of these boards where I have helped students pass GCSEs, IGCSEs and 'A' Levels in English language and literature.
Student Success Stories
In terms of success, it feels very much that those students who have succeeded have done so off the strength of their hard work and, hopefully, a bit of my guidance.
Some of my students have passed common entrance examinations to go to Harrow, St Paul's, Dulwich and Highgate. One pupil of mine managed to get an A* in IGCSE English literature despite only been schooled in Britain for a year previous to her taking the exam.
For university entrances, I have had students go on to Russel Group universities in the UK as well as prestigious theatre, music, and art schools in London.
