Biography
I am a fully qualified, working English teacher (English BA (Hons), Literary Studies MA, PGCE) with 14 years’ experience of teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5. In person lessons take place in my home in Gilfach Goch, where I have a library of books, resources and past papers. However I am more than happy to tutor online as well, using Skype or Facetime. I am also a fluent Welsh speaker.
Tutoring Experience
I have tutored (on and off) for over 7 years, predominantly working with individual students in order to achieve a desired grade. I have done this while also working full time as an English teacher, and thus have plenty of experience teaching large GCSE and AS/ A Level classes. In addition, I have plenty of experience teaching students of all abilities.
Lesson Planning
My lessons are tailored to suit the needs of the student and I choose materials that are designed to engage their interests and motivate them. I employ a variety of strategies, including (but not limited to) example-based teaching, timed exercises, breaking tasks/ questions/essays down into chunks in order to deconstruct them, as well as mind-mapping, revising timing/ planning skills and setting time aside for Q+A and discussion.
Exam Board Experience
I am well-acquainted with the WJEC/ EDUQAS English/ English Literature exams, both at GCSE and AS/ A Level.
