Biography
PhD qualified scientist offering biology tutoring up to and including postgraduate level. I also provide chemistry, physics and mathematics tuition up to GCSE level.
I have a PhD in molecular biology, my BSc(Hons) is in forensic science and law.
I have tutored privately in the past, as well as working as a sessional university lecturer in biology. I have 18 years practical experience working in various scientific and engineering disciplines.
I currently work as a scientist training surgeons to use stem cell technology.
I am student led. My first priority is to find out which parts of the subject the student finds most difficult. I then use various different teaching methods to make those areas understandable (I know learning is a very personal thing and students will respond better to some methods than others).
Up to A level I follow the curriculum for the student's specific exam board. In further education I work with course outlines to make sure what I am teaching is appropriate and individualised.
Tutoring Experience
I have previously lectured up to postgraduate biology. I have provided private tutoring for biology (up to 'A' level), chemistry, maths and physics (up to GCSE).
Lesson Planning
I work through the syllabus. If a student is already confident with a particular area then I will give them an exam question to test their knowledge. If they complete it successfully then we carry on to the next topic. I tend to concentrate more on areas that often arise in exams.
