As I tutor I set out to establish with the student how they work best. Applying this to sessions, I encourage the learning of skills, rather than content, so that students can hone their critical thinking and analytical abilities. My aim is to enable students not only to understand the key texts and theories they are faced with, but to develop their own academic ideas on them.

Whilst I am new to offering tutoring sessions, I have acted as a 'proctor' for the University of Leeds Philosophy Department. In my role, I led groups of students in debate sessions in a classroom setting.

I would plan my sessions in regard to the requirements of the student. I will set out clearly what the aim of the session is, and at the end, ask them whether or not they feel they have achieved that aim. Importantly, I will ask what they feel to be the most helpful method of learning, whilst also suggesting methods that I myself find the most helpful.
