I am an experienced secondary school English teacher who teaches both KS3 and GCSE. I have been teaching for over 10 years and I love what I do. I enjoy teaching all aspects of English Language and English Literature and enjoy seeing my students make outstanding progress.
I have been casually tutoring individual and small groups of students alongside teaching for a number of years and I enjoy watching the rapid progress that they make. I would like to offer my expertise to those who would like some additional challenge or support and I am able to make sure that any specific needs are met. I have worked with a range of ages and abilities and individuals as well as small groups.
I always start my lessons with a short sharp task designed to provoke thoughts about the skill being taught. This is usually followed by some quick information retrieval questions so that I can gauge any gaps in knowledge. This is then followed by extensive modelling of a key skill or question which helps to give confidence and encouragement to engage with the task set. I aim to support my students through their sessions, this is through working together on answering questions and by giving lots of positive reinforcement and gentle advice on how to improve. I aim to develop confidence and resilience in all of those who I teach and give regular feedback using exam criteria if relevant.
Exam Board Experience
I am a senior examiner for AQA and have found that this experience has massively benefitted the students who I teach. It has given my a depth of knowledge in my subject and confidence in applying mark schemes and identifying skills needed to improve. I have also worked for other officiating bodies and have an in depth knowledge of all different specifications.
Student Success Stories
I have taught all ranges of abilities and have enjoyed seeing so many of my students succeed. I have always loved teaching and have real passion for my subject. This has always enabled me to motivate and inspire those who I teach.
