I’ve had a year’s experience tutoring maths and physics from year 6 SAT’s all the way through to AS level.
I take a catered approach as every student is different and everyone has a different learning style. Some people are more visual and require sample demonstrations before they can attempt questions; other students are more practical and thrive better when given challenging questions and learning from their mistakes. My main aim is to ensure I am aware of every student’s individual learning style and adjusting my teaching style to match that, so that the student receives the optimum teaching and sees the most improvement. I’m constantly asking my students for feedback to ensure I also improve as a tutor.
I spend the initial period getting to know you and identifying your strengths and weaknesses. I then plan the following lessons to target those specific areas and topic which you are weakest at making sure you get all the support you need to see progress. I will regularly assess your performance to ensure that progress is being made and as an indicator of whether or not the teaching approach being taken is most effective.
I am currently an undergraduate studying at the University of Surrey and in my second year of Mechanical Engineering. I really enjoy the subject and chose this because of my interest in the practical applications of mathematics and physics. The practical applications of topics in maths and physics that I tutor are something I always love to share with my students. Not only does this reinforce the importance of these subjects but always makes learning mathematics and physics more interesting.
Other than mathematics and sciences I also have an interest in art and learning languages. In my spare time I also enjoy playing basketball and doing boxing.
I have had 1 year’s experience in tutoring mathematics and some physics from Year 6 SATs through to AS level. This meant I have had to teach a large variety of students with various learning styles to which I had to adjust.
I set an initial assessment with questions from a large variety of topics at various different difficulty levels as well as have an in depth conversation getting to know the student to assess the student’s strengths and weaknesses.
From there I create an in depth lesson plan for the following lessons in which I target their weaknesses in an approach catered to their learning style. I regularly assess the student to ensure they are making improvement and to notify me of any variations required in my teaching.
I set homework after each lesson which should take roughly 30 minutes to complete depending on how often the student receives tuition lessons. I spend the first 15 minutes of every session reviewing the homework with the student; helping them with any questions they struggled with and answering any questions they may have.
Exam Board Experience
I am quite familiar with how exam boards work having done qualifications such as GCSEs and ALevels as well as dealing with exam boards for extra qualifications such as an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification).
Student Success Stories
100% of my past students have seen significant and consistent improvement in their grades upon receiving my tuition. Every student Was impressed by my catered approach and would always recommend me to their classmates who also struggled with the subject.
Many of my past students not only found a new appreciation and interest in the subject of mathematics but also a greater understanding of the subject.
