As an English Teacher, I’ve had experience of teaching in various state schools. I believe every student is capable of being the best they can be in terms of academic and personal growth with the right support. To bring out the the best in all students, I differentiate and scaffold all tasks to give my students building blocks so they can meet learning outcomes at their own pace. I have high expectations of all pupils and set challenge tasks and homework to check understanding and progress. I promote reading as much as I can as I believe this is key to building students’ reading and writing skills.
I am new to tutoring; however, I have a thorough understanding of the dynamics of tutoring. To help students succeed and flourish in English, I would give guidance to individual students who asked for additional help and provided them with resources that would support and supplement their knowledge or understanding of a topic. I have had experience in mentoring students during remote learning and tailored lesson activities to their needs and provided clear guidance on how to complete certain tasks.
I structure my lesson plans in a simple way by reviewing students prior knowledge, introducing them to new knowledge and assessing their work via independent based tasks. I assess the student’s skills by consolidating their knowledge and only assess once a particular skill is mastered adequately. I set homework to gauge pupils’ understanding and whether they can apply the new skill successfully.
Exam Board Experience
I have taught the AQA specification up to GCSE.
Student Success Stories
I have seen a difference in confidence and newfound willingness to try their best. Some students, successfully, applied the skills taught in class and were moved into a higher set group. I’ve had success in seeing students starting off with writing a few lines when analyzing a text to writing in-depth paragraphs and giving relevant and insightful interpretations of fictional texts.
