I have a serious passion for science and a hunger to share this passion with others. My job as your tutor will be to break down scientific concepts as simply as possible, but in a manner that will let you apply your thinking to as many contexts as possible. The sessions will take place at a pace suited to your learning requirements, but I am always ready to push and challenge my students to increase chances of success. I know the challenges of 'not understanding anything what the teacher is going on about'.....which is why I am here! So that we can overcome these challenges!

I have been tutoring for just over 3 years: Biology and chemistry up to GCSE level are my main areas of expertise. Exam practise is heavily integrated into the lessons to ensure that pupils can apply knowledge coherently during the written exam.

Lesson styles vary from topic to topic and between individual student. A typical lesson looks like the following: starter - exam question covering topics from last lessons, general aspects of the syllabus to identify gaps in knowledge, exam question to identify gaps in a particular topic if student is familiar with sub-topics. main - explanation and application of knowledge questions - a chance to ask any questions about the lesson or previous lessons ( I strongly encourage questions or points to be asked throughout the lesson to help embed knowledge and help the lesson feel more like a conversation. This has previously helped students to retain knowledge). Conclusion - exam question to be answered by student to ensure learning has occurred ('a mark a minute' techniques employed e.g. 3 minutes of silence will be allocated to the student to attempt a 3 mark questions before checking with the mark scheme. As such, students will become familiar with how to use mark schemes and practise papers for their own revision time).
