I follow a basic structure of: retrieval practice quiz to test the student's knowledge, a recap depending on when I last saw the student and how well they remember the information, an introduction of new information (be it content or exam skills), an application of the new knowledge by the student, and finally I review the student's understanding of the new knowledge and reflect on areas of improvement. I am highly unlikely to set homework unless there is an area of real concern, or the student is genuinely interested in exploring a certain area for future discussion. I want to avoid overloading the student as they are likely to already have school homework and need time to recharge to maximise their wellbeing and productivity.
