Siobhan A

I have worked in Education for over 25 years teaching Spanish, English and Portuguese to students aged 9-90. I am passionate about language, literature and music and believe that learning should be accessible for everyone. In my spare time I also compose music and have taken shows, including a children's musical to the Edinburgh Fringe. I was named as one of the top ten people of the year by the Times Educational Supplement in 2020 for my services to education. I wholly believe that with the right learning environment then people can achieve great things. This theory has never let me down.

I have over 25 years of tutoring and teaching experience ranging from complete beginners to university level. My main subjects have been Spanish Language and English (especially creative writing and literature). All of my students have achieved great results and many have gone on to further studies in related fields.

I always dedicate me first meeting with a potential learner to establidh their needs. From there, I like to decide on a plan with the learner to ensure that they are happy with the course of action. This also means that we are able to review progress and revise plans as we go along. I encourage learner feedback throughout the programme so that learners have control over their learning and feel confident in the whole tutoring process.

I have excellent knowledge of the Scottish Qualification system having been an Education Manager based on Scotland for over 10 years. I know the requirements of GCSE exams and have experience of tutoring students for the IB also.

I boast a very high A and B pass rate for nationals and highers with many of my students processing on to study at university or college. During my time teaching at college, I had the highest pass rate for Spanish and was highlighted in the Times Educational Supplement due to the success of my classes.
