Tom D

My name is Tom and I have been working as a tutor and teacher for several years. I tutor GCSE and A Level History, Politics, English, Geography and Film. My PhD was jointly supervised by the History and Film departments at Newcastle University and awarded in 2026. It won the Doctoral College Prize for outstanding research. I am also a documentary filmmaker, with an emphasis on history, cities and architecture, and my work has been shown in public galleries. I have also appeared on BBC Look North and BBC Politics North as an expert guest.

I have experience of teaching KS3, GCSE, A-Level and University courses. My experience teaching began in Bologna, Italy where I worked as an English teacher at a language institute and within primary and secondary schools. Since returning to England in 2019, I began working as tutor, helping many students achieve their target grades and top marks. I have also taught at Newcastle University on philosophy and history modules.

I tailor my lessons to students' needs and I can help with exam preparation and revision; reviewing of classwork and coursework; general tutoring and teaching of curriculum; and critical thinking and research/study skills

I have taught AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Educas/Wjec, Cambridge/Pearson IGCSE and A-Level, IELTS and TOEFL.
